Hovering

My debut novel, Hovering, is out now through Hachette Australia. It’s about many things. So many that it’s hard to summarise. But I’ll try.

It’s about leaving and staying, change and constancy, and cities that transform themselves. It’s about two estranged sisters who are forced to meet again after years apart, and a boy who believes he might be hearing the universe. It’s about artistic identity, homesickness for distant places, and trees that grow from the sides of buildings. It’s about landscape and the built environment and the many things in between. It periodically features a fictional cartoon from the 80s about an army of trees, and a resort city floating somewhere in the Pacific. It’s about internet culture and public shaming and memes and how we respond to events that make no sense.

But mostly it’s about connection in strange times, and finding the human in the noise.
